Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 October 2026

The short version. LandHog needs your location to work. We use it to draw the land you hog, and we only follow you in the background while a hog is running. You can play without giving us your name or email. Other players see your Hog name, your colour and the land you claim, but never a live dot showing where you are. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and you can delete your account in the app at any time.

1. Who We Are

LandHog is a real-world territory game made by LandHog Ltd, a company registered in Scotland (company number [COMPANY NUMBER]), registered office [REGISTERED OFFICE ADDRESS]. In this policy, "LandHog", "we" and "us" mean LandHog Ltd.

We are the "controller" of the personal data described here, which means we decide how and why it's used and we're responsible for looking after it under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

For anything about your data, email privacy@playlandhog.com.

LandHog is currently in beta. Some features may change, and we'll update this policy if what we collect changes.

2. What We Collect

TypeWhat it isWhy we need it
Your player accountA guest sign-in and random player ID created when you first open the app, your Hog name (we make one up for you, and you can change it), your colour, whether you play Public or Private, and your previous Hog names. To run your account and show you on the map. Previous names help us deal with offensive names and impersonation.
Sign-in details (optional)If you choose to save your account, your email address (we send you a one-time code; there's no password), or your Google or Apple sign-in. Apple shares your email address, and lets you hide your real one. Google shares your email address, name and profile picture. So you can get your account back on a new phone and sign in securely.
Your birth month and yearAsked once when you start. To check you're old enough to play (13 or over).
LocationYour phone's precise location while the app is open, and during a hog (including when your screen is off). See Your Location. The game can't work without it: to show the map around you, draw your loop, work out which city you're in, and check claims are genuine.
Your land and hogsThe shape and size of land you claim, when you claimed it, how far you walked, when you last hogged each patch, land you've stolen or lost, and which city it's in. On Android, whether your phone reported a fake-location app during the hog.To score your hogs, show land on the map, handle steals, return unhogged land to the wild and catch faked hogs.
Game progressPoints, hogs, steals, streaks, personal bests, badges, leagues, seasons, private leagues and Quick Games you've joined. To run leaderboards, seasons, promotions and games with friends.
Device and technical dataA random device code the app creates and keeps on your phone, your push notification token, your phone's time zone, your city and country (worked out from your location), and your IP address when the app talks to our server. To send notifications, reset daily stats at your midnight, stop under-13s simply trying again on the same phone, limit how often the server can be called, and keep the service secure.
Messages you send usEmails to our support or privacy addresses, and anything you include in them.To reply and help you.

We don't collect your contacts, photos, microphone, payment details or advertising IDs, and we don't use analytics or advertising tools in the app. There are no payments in the beta. If we add paid features later, Apple or Google will handle the payment and we'll update this policy first.

3. Your Location

Location is the heart of LandHog, so here's exactly how it works:

You can turn off location access at any time in your phone's settings. If you do, the game won't be able to track hogs.

4. What Other Players See

Land is a real place. Bear in mind that land you hog near your home or work shows where you spend time. If that worries you, use Private Hogging, or start your hogs a little away from home.

5. How We Use It, And Why

Data protection law requires us to have a legal reason (a "lawful basis") for each use of your data:

What we doLawful basis
Run the game you've asked to play: your account, hogs, land, points, leagues, maps and leaderboardsContract: we need it to provide the game
Check your age when you startLegal obligation and legitimate interests: keeping children under 13 out
Detect cheating, fake accounts and abuse; limit how often the server can be called; keep things secureLegitimate interests: a fair game and a safe service
Send notifications (land stolen, land about to return to the wild, season results, game invites)Consent: your phone asks before we can send any, and you can turn them off in settings
Fix bugs and improve the game, including feedback from beta testersLegitimate interests: making LandHog better
Reply to your messages and handle requests about your dataLegitimate interests and legal obligation

We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, or make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects. Our anti-cheat checks can reject a claim (for example, a loop that was "walked" faster than anyone can run), and you can always contact us if you think one was wrong.

6. Who We Share It With

We use a small number of trusted companies to run LandHog. They only use your data to provide their service to us:

CompanyWhat they do for usWhere
SupabaseDatabase and sign-in: stores your account, land and game data, and sends one-time sign-in codes by emailEU (Paris, France)
RailwayRuns our game serverEU (Amsterdam, Netherlands)
MapboxMap images. Your phone downloads map tiles for the area you're viewing, so Mapbox receives your IP address and the map area. Mapbox may also collect limited usage data under its own privacy policy. We switch this off wherever Mapbox lets apps do so.USA
OpenStreetMap (Nominatim)Turns a map position into a city or place name. Our server sends the position only, with nothing that identifies you.UK / EU
Expo, Google (Firebase) and AppleDeliver push notifications to your phone. Notifications can include a place name, your city and other players' Hog names.USA
Apple and Google (your phone's place lookup)Turn your position into a city name on your phoneUSA
Google and AppleSign-in, only if you choose "Sign in with Google" or "Sign in with Apple"USA
HostingerHosts our website and emailEurope

Google Play, Apple's App Store and TestFlight handle app downloads and collect data under their own privacy policies. We may also share data if the law requires it, to protect players' safety, or with a new owner if LandHog is ever sold (they'd have to keep to this policy).

7. Where Your Data Is Stored

Our database is in France and our game server is in the Netherlands. Some of our providers are US companies, and a few (such as push notifications and maps) handle data in the USA. Where data leaves the UK, we rely on the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK–US Data Bridge or the UK's approved standard contract clauses.

8. How Long We Keep It

9. Deleting Your Account

You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile›Settings›Delete Account. If you no longer have the app, see Delete Your Account to ask us by email.

When you delete your account, we straight away:

We keep the game history under that anonymous label, so other players' past results still add up: the outlines of land you hogged and when, your points, stats and badges, season results, Quick Game land and any private leagues you created. It's no longer linked to your name, email, birth date or sign-in. Because land outlines are real places, you can also ask us to erase your land history completely: email privacy@playlandhog.com.

10. Your Rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

Email privacy@playlandhog.com from the email address on your account, or tell us your Hog name. We may need to check it's really you. We'll reply within one month, and it's free.

11. Children

LandHog is for people aged 13 and over. We ask for your birth month and year when you start, and we don't create an account for anyone under 13. If you think a child under 13 is using LandHog, email privacy@playlandhog.com and we'll delete their account.

If you're 13 to 17, the same protections in this policy apply to you: no ads, no selling data, and Private Hogging is available if you'd rather your land wasn't public. It's a good idea to talk to a parent or carer about playing a game that uses your location.

12. Security

All data between the app and our server is encrypted (HTTPS). The app can't read our database directly. Everything goes through our own server, which checks that anything that changes your account or the game comes from your signed-in account. Sign-in uses one-time codes or Google and Apple sign-in, so there are no LandHog passwords to steal. No system is perfectly secure, but if something goes wrong that puts your data at risk, we'll tell you and the regulator as the law requires.

13. Beta Sign-Ups And Discord

If you sign up for the beta, we collect what you put in the sign-up form (such as your name, email address, whether you use Android or iPhone, the Google account email you use for Google Play, and roughly where you'd play). The form is a Google Form, so Google stores the answers for us. We use them only to invite you to the beta and contact you about it, and we delete them within 3 months of the beta ending, or sooner if you ask.

To install the beta, Google Play or Apple's TestFlight may share your email address or name with us as a tester. If you join our Discord server, Discord's own privacy policy applies to what you post there.

14. This Website

playlandhog.com doesn't use cookies, analytics or trackers, and loads nothing from other companies. Our web host keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) for security.

15. Changes To This Policy

We'll update this policy when LandHog changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change matters, for example if we start collecting something new, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.

16. Contact And Complaints
